Two decades ago, stainless steel kitchens were seldom used in Indian homes. Almost all the kitchens were made using plywood and rarely in real wood. These kitchens did not last long and often deteriorated quickly in harsh conditions. A detailed market study conducted by B3 Macbis revealed a wide demand for alternatives to wood and plywood.While respondents recognized stainless steel's durability and hygiene benefits, they expressed concerns about its commercial appearance. To address this, B3 explored innovative solutions, and worked on fixing a cladding on drawer and shutter fascia with original teak wood, thin stone slabs, and planilaque glass which totally gave a new perspective to the appearance of the kitchens. This innovative design was met with enthusiastic acceptance by architects and interior designers. The fascia cladding/skin could be changed any time to give a different appearance to the kitchen. An increase in demand for this design evolved because, during the repainting or renovation of the house, the kitchen colour could be matched with the general colour theme of the house. Another common issue observed in traditional kitchens was the accumulation of dirt and moisture beneath units which was covered by a skirting- leading to hygiene problems and insect breeding. Moreover, the trapped dirt and moisture damaged the wood/plywood from underneath, gradually spreading aside and finally damaging the total kitchen. After studying the feedback of architects, interior designers and housewives, B3 embarked on an extensive R&D to develop new kitchen mounting method that could increase the hygiene factors of a kitchen. Hence a cantilever kitchen system that could be wall mounted was born and introduced to the market in the early 2000s. This system provided ample space beneath the specially designed unit's load-bearing carcass. This groundbreaking solution earned acclaim from industry professionals for its unique feature that was previously unavailable in India. The introduction of the stainless-steel cantilever kitchen system marked a paradigm shift in kitchen installation approaches. Currently awaiting patent approval, the carcass and cantilever system transformed Acero into a leading player in the stainless-steel modular kitchen segment, signalling a departure from traditional kitchen concepts. Acero emerged as an independent brand, flourishing as one of B3's flagship verticals. This success story reflects B3's commitment to innovation and meeting the evolving needs of consumers, revolutionizing kitchen design and installation practices in India.
